Jake's Painting

Before that session kicked off Jake at least managed to get the latest painting finished. It still has to be framed of course, probably with bamboo...

Armrests

We were putting the armrests together today. These took a while but they are going to serve as storage compartments, and possibly house mini-fridges or speakers. An impromptu session stalled progress this afternoon when Dennis showed up and started playing the drums. Soon Jake was on his guitar and work was OVER.

The Backrest

The backrest is made from a 1958 Mercedes. Jake really liked the shape, so its pretty much untouched. It affords a nice surface on the back of the couch for some artwork...

The Shape

It took a while to get the shape right, those things tend to grow rather organically. But this is close. We may have to shave another inch or so off the back.

Starting Out

Jake dug out this bumper a few days ago and we went to work. Its from a 1955 Cadillac and will soon be someone's couch.

Concept

This is usually where it begins. Shown here is the "updated concept sketch". i.e. What it became...

Building a 1971 Cadillac Sofa

Custom Caddy Sofa is Done

Another happy customer…A 1971 Cadillac Eldorado sofa leaves the shop with a very happy new owner. This was a fun couch to complete. All work was done by Jake…Body, paint, build and upholstery. The gold piping, lower back and peak above the bumper give a taste of pimpness without the grease of a 50’s diner.

Almost There - Beatnik Purple Couch

Almost Done!

Beatnik Purple Couch for Screamin’ Ink

Billy Monroe was looking for a signature piece of furniture to hit clients in the face when you enter his Screamin’ Ink Tatoo shop in Fair Lawn, NJ. Jake got fired up and put together one of the coolest couches he has ever made. This rear-end was pretty crushed when it came to the shop and Jake spent countless hours hammering it back to life.

Jake starts hammering out the the rusted out rear end.
